Change of Status

Individuals who wish to change their current status as non-immigrant aliens may apply to the United States Customs and Immigration Services to do so.  Please review the USCIS requirements for requesting Change of Status.  Keep in mind that USCIS may or may not approve a request.  Individuals who wish to make such a request have three options:

In our experience, USCIS disapproves applications made before the individual has been in the U.S. for at least four months.  If you are planning to request Change of Status, we encourage you to do so no earlier than four months after you arrive in the U.S. and no later than two or three weeks before your current status will expire.  Once you request a Change of Status, you may remain in the U.S. legally until your are notified by USCIS whether your request is approved or denied.
