The Social Security Account Number (SSAN) is issued to
individuals who are eligible to work in the United States. (If you
are not eligible for the SSAN, you may apply for an Individual
Tax Identification Number - ITIN)
According to subsection (9) of
8
CFR 214(f) Students may work only under one of two
conditions:
-
Up to 20 hours per week on campus while
school is in session.
-
If authorized by Immigration, a student may
work up to 20 hours per week in the community. This is
normally only granted to students who can prove severe economic hardship
for the family or sponsor of the
student. This exception is only considered after the
student has been in the U.S. for one academic year (2 full
semesters).
Spouses and children of F-1 Students may not work at any
time they are in the U.S.
Even if a student has a Social Security Number, it DOES
NOT give permission to work off-campus in the community. That
permission can only be given by Immigration, based on specific needs and
circumstances of the individual (see condition #2 above).
At Nomen Global, there are only a limited number of
on-campus jobs. Therefore, students should expect to support
themselves during the period of time they will study with us.
For those who are not eligible for the Social Security
Account Number, the Individual Tax Identification
Number may serve their purpose. Click
