When can I start classes?
At Nomen Global we have a revolutionary Advanced Modular ESL Enrollment system that allows new students to start class
every two weeks.
Advanced Modular ESL Enrollment
Nomen Global has a unique academic calendar based on our Advanced Modular ESL Curriculum TM. The curriculum was designed for
students who wanted to come to the United States to study but could only come for a short period of time or wanted to start
classes outside of the traditional semester or quarter system that is predominant in the United States educational system. So
the curriculum was designed as a stand alone, non sequential curriculum that teaches based on skill acquisition rather than
sequential acquisition. In normal language acquisition in human children from whatever culture or language, acquisition rarely
takes a specific sequential path and is much more skills based and so our Advanced Modular ESL Curriculum TM patterns more
after the natural language acquisition process.
This modular educational system has allowed for the development of Advanced Modular ESL Enrollment™ which allows for
both start dates and enrollment of the Traditional Semester system as well as non-traditional start dates and
enrollment.
A Traditional Semester would have start dates for Winter, Summer and Fall. Three possible semesters each year.
Winter Semester, Summer Semester, Spring Semester
Each semester has sixteen weeks divided into eight (8) two-week blocks. These blocks are numbered such as W1, W2, W3...W8,
for Winter Semester or S1, S2,S3...S8 for Summer Semester and F1, F2,F3...F8 for Fall Semester. Many students choose this
Traditional Semester enrollment.
The Advanced Modular ESL Curriculum™ would allow students to have start dates in any of those blocks (24 possibilities
each year) and begin at any block. As they are totally self-contained and not sequential the student may begin a course
of study whenever it is convenient and never fall behind. Enrollment in this manner is the Non-Traditional Semester option.
A sample program would then look like this. A student entering the school on block W4 would follow the following block system.
W4, W5, W6, W7, W8, S1, S2, S3
The second semester in continuous studies would then begin with block S4 and would look like this.
S4, S5, S6, S7, S8, F1, F2, F3
This student would then follow a non-traditional calendar enrollment throughout their time at Nomen Global.
Each block, again, is self-contained and over the eight (8) block non-traditional semester the student receives all
of the content of the traditional semester. This program allows for all content to be taught in a systematic manner
regardless of when a student desires to enter into the United States and helps the student with their personal calendar needs.
Do I need Health Insurance?
It is strongly recommended that students have health insurance while attending Nomen Global. We encourage you to get
insurance prior to coming to the U.S. Students may decide to acquire insurance after their arrival, but it is highly
advisable that they should have insurance, and failure to do so could result in extremely expensive medical care while
in the U.S. Nomen Global retains on site reference information regarding student health insurance as well as a listing of
community resources for medical providers. The student health insurance information is also sent to the student in the
Acceptance Packet. The medical provider list includes local clinics who can treat students at reduced prices. These are
available for the students in the Student Handbook.
Though not required by law, students are expected to have all required shots and vaccinations before coming to the U.S.
Utah County Health Department performs periodic tests for Tuberculosis. Student who test positive are required to have
further x-ray testing.
Nomen Global refers students who desire health insurance to ISO Student Health Insurance. They are a leader in the
marketplace, available in all states and have two of the largest PPO networks.

What Student Services do you have?
Nomen Glbobal offers several advising and student services.
Academic Advisement
Most students attending Nomen Global are seeking English through second-language acquisition. Their purposes
could be academic in nature as well as other reasons. If they are academic they might desire to pass the TOEFL Test
and that test preparation is available. Others on the educational track may be preparing to sit for Graduate Tests.
Academic Advisement takes place in a variety of methods throughout the students Nomen Global experience. Such as:
IEP: As part of the admissions and registration process each student is given an Oral Interview. In this interview
a student’s speaking ability is assessed by a member of the Education Department. Students receive an IEP (Individual
Education Plan) which is “self-completed” during the writing assessment. This IEP gives them an opportunity to articulate
their plan for their education and/or career and English acquisition and at the same time state their future goals.
SEPs: During the Integrated Skills class (home room) students meet with their teacher and complete an SEP conference.
Faculty reviews with each student their grades and attendance, as well as their ongoing education goals.
Career Advisement
During two semesters of the year a Career Fair is held where various professionals represent their professions and give the
students the opportunity to speak to their own career goals and choices. Sections are taught on resume building, interviewing
skills, etc. and add to the career advisement for those students who are seeking career enhancement through their second
language acquisition courses.
College and University Advisement
Nomen Global provides college and university advisement to their students. This includes information for colleges in the
Intermountain West as well as a listing of deadlines and application requirements for those institutions.
Additional university and college advisement is provided annually during the college fair where all students may attend
college and university booths on Nomen Global campus and meet with admissions representatives. Information from those
participating institutions is also available year-round.
Community Resource Advisement
Nomen Global maintains a current list of community resources that offer help in a variety of areas. Students can obtain this
list independently from the Student Handbook or contact a member of staff or faculty. In the event that they desire to
discuss their needs with Student Services personnel they should make an appointment.
Immigration Advisement
Students desiring immigration advisement can receive information on immigration rules and procedures as well as help in
processing immigration documents from the Student Services department. Student Services personnel are trained in SEVP and
USCIS procedures and policies to ensure this. Students are also informed of deadlines and timeframes pursuant to their own
continuing immigration status. Student Services personnel are available during regular business hours to accommodate students
in a timely manner.
The PDSO and DSOs receive SEVP training every six months directly from SEVP and are trained in providing general answers to
immigration status questions. Nomen Global has also forged professional relationships with several legal firms specializing
in immigration matters. Students are referred to these firms who oftimes meet the students at the Nomen Global offices.
Legal Advisement
Individuals who find themselves with legal problems on occasion seek advice from Student Services staff. Nomen Global
maintains professional relationships with several law firms with various specialties. They may refer students to those
firms or refer students to the Utah State Bar Association “locate an attorney“ website or phone number.
World Readiness Advisement
We are preparing our students, like it says in our mission statement, “to obtain their goals for the future.” We believe
that “world-readiness” will provide students the skill set necessary for academic studies or a profession and career,
but also the tasks that life, in general, will require of them.
The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), in association with the National Standards Collaborative
Board (2015), published the World Readiness Standards for Learning Languages. Nomen Global subscribes to these standards.
“World Readiness” involves five goal areas: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities, and their
associated standards. The goal standards are:
Promote students ability to interact and negotiate meaning in spoken, signed, or written conversations in order to share
information, reactions, feelings, and opinions
Developing the ability to understand, interpret, and analyze what is heard, read, or viewed on a variety of topics
Call upon students to present information, concepts, and ideas in ways that explain, inform, persuade, or narrate on a
variety of topics. (This includes the selection and use of appropriate media as well as tailoring presentations to various
audiences, whether readers, viewers, or listeners.)
Call for students to use language for critical thinking and creative problem solving
Students can use language within and beyond the classroom as they interact and collaborate within a globalized world.
(The National Standards Collaborative Board, 2015)
Nomen Global provides advisement through the education department in all of these areas of transferable skills and
accompanying discourse patterns which we believe prepares our students for World Readiness.
What is expected of me at Nomen Global?
Nomen Global is a fully accredited school approved by the United States Department of Education. In addition, we are
regulated by the Department of Homeland Security (SEVP) which requires that individuals who are guest of the United
States government and studying at an institution must abide by the rules which govern their stay.
Student Code of Conduct
As a student, I promise to abide by the following rules of Nomen Global Language Centers. I also agree to encourage and
help my classmates abide by these rules:
I will not use my native language at school except under circumstances where I need an interpreter to clarify something
I did not understand. I will speak English in the halls, classrooms, student lounge, and the Computer Center.
I will abide by the academic standards of the school. I will participate in classroom activities and turn in my homework
when it is due. I will work hard to do my best in class. If my grades fall below the minimum, if I have excessive absences,
or if I am disrespectful in the classroom towards teachers, other students, or Nomen Global faculty and staff, I may receive
a warning, be placed on probation or suspended from school.
If I am placed on probation, I understand that I may be dismissed from school if my grades do not improve or if I do not
meet Nomen Global’s standards. School standards include not being late for class and not leaving the classroom unless
there is an emergency.
I will meet all of my financial obligations to the school otherwise I may be placed on probation.
I understand that, if I am placed on probation, my sponsor and/or parents will be notified by the school.
Nomen Global Honor Code
I will not cheat.
I will not steal. If I do, I understand that I may be punished to the full extent of the law.
I will not destroy school property or cause damage to the place where I live.
I will treat teachers, students and staff with kindness and mutual respect at all times – both at school and away from it.
I will honor all financial arrangements with the school.
I will abide by the rules of the apartment complex where I live.
Student Attendance Compliance Policy
Attendance is an important part of the experience at Nomen Global. SEVP requires that students be in attendance to
maintain status with the United States. Nomen Global has set the requirement at eighty (80%) percent attendance to be
in status.
Pass/Fail rates also indicate that the number one reason for passing or failing the course is attendance. If the students
do not attend, instruction and subsequent learning do not take place.
Student Services tracks student attendance over the course of a Student Semester* and a weekly attendance review is taken.
Students who are coming close to exceeding allowable absences are placed on watch.
According to SEVP students failing to maintain status in this area should be terminated for “Otherwise Failing to
Maintain Status”.
*A “Student Semester” is a sixteen week semester that starts when the student enrolls and runs for sixteen weeks and
can span several weeks over administrative semesters.
Student Academic Policy
Federal law within the United States mandates that “Academic Progress” is required to maintain SEVP status. Grades are
an excellent indicator as to whether or not the student is actually maintaining that academic progress. Grades are
determined by completion of assignments, quizzes, projects and tests.
Nomen Global requires that a student who is progressing academically must maintain a 2.0 GPA.
Two consecutive semesters of adequate “Academic Progress” is required to qualify for the semester vacation allowed
for each international student. If a student does not complete two consecutive semesters, adequately demonstrating
“Academic Progress” he/she will be required to complete additional semesters. The adequate semesters must be consecutive.
It is therefore possible that a student could be required to complete three or four semesters prior to being approved for
a vacation semester. Academic compliance must also be completed by compliance with the Attendance requirements.
A student who has not met required academic and attendance progress will be considered temporarily out of status
and if requesting a transfer they will be transferred “out of status”.
A 2.0 GPA, within core classes, is also required to progress to the next academic level.
Financial Compliance Policy
To maintain status, a student must be current in their payments and financial obligations to the school. If a student is not
in compliance with their payment schedule there are penalties.
A student has three (3) days from their listed due date to pay and be in compliance. Late fees are assessed on the
fourth day after the due date. The standard late fee is $50.
Nomen Global grants students a scholarship discount for their 2nd semester onward. This discount is a gift to
the student and is based on student payment and other compliance.
Student payment receipts are given from the office the day the payment is received. Check dates are not considered.
It is the receipt date.
Can I get refund?
Application and express mail fees are not refundable. Generally, students are advised to wait on payments of other fees
and tuition until they are approved at the embassy. If the student is approved, tuition is due.
Payment of the tuition constitutes formal registration as a Nomen Global student. At this point, the refund policy also
becomes activated.
The refund policy applies to all students and those who transfer in or have received a visa and have subsequently completed
the admission/registration process. Any payments that have been made after the admission/registration
process fall under the published Refund Schedule.
Refunds are issued based on this policy and schedule:
